Mrs. Renfro’s Gourmet Salsas (Product Review and Giveaway)

I recently had the opportunity to sample 3 salsas and a nacho cheese sauce from Mrs. Renfro's product line.  Never had tried this brand before, I didn't know what my husband and I were in store for.  Usually, we have a difficult time trying to find just the right jar of salsa in the grocery store, but usually with no luck.  Either the brand waters down their product, it just doesn't taste good, or it is not spicy enough, even when buying the "hot" version.  So, I usually end up making homemade salsa.  But, when we are craving nacho chips and salsa, it is always good to be able to go to the refrigerator or pantry and grab a jar of salsa and dip away.  

Below are the flavors I chose to sample and my thoughts on them.  If you are a salsa lover like my husband and I, you should head on over to Mrs. Renfro's and check out their salsa selection, in addition to their relishes and other tasty products.

Flavors I Sampled:

Black Bean Salsa -- $3.25/jar

This thick salsa goes great on baked potatoes – also makes a great base for homemade southwestern pizza.

My Thoughts:  This was the only salsa I didn't use with chips.  We added as a sauce for a pizza per Mrs. Renfro's website, and have to say it was mighty tasty.  Replacing the tomato sauce and adding Mexican cheeses and toppings, we created a unique style pizza that both my husband and I found enjoyable.  I couldn't get over how thick this salsa was and that it contained whole black beans.  It added to the flavor of the pizza, and we will definitely be using this again for pizzas and to try with baked potatoes.

Hot Salsa -- $3.25/jar

A spicy version of our classic salsa – add to just about anything.

My Thoughts:  I was able to sample this salsa, and found it to be a very spicy and hot salsa.  Unlike other salsas that claim they are hot, this one really is.  My eyes started watering after just opening the jar and taking a sniff.  I love hot stuff and pushing the limits of my spicy/heat tolerance, and this was just right.  Even though my tongue was burning, I found myself grabbing more chips and dipping into this tasty salsa. On the other hand, my crazy husband thought this salsa was mild/medium.  I think he needs to see a doctor, or his tongue and taste buds were killed from the ghost pepper salsa he consumed that night.

Ghost Pepper Salsa -- $3.25/jar

The ghost pepper takes on many forms - pepper spray, hand grenades, smoke bombs… and now salsa! Made from the hottest pepper in the world, our Ghost Pepper Salsa will frighten your taste buds and leave you screaming for more. We dare you to give it a try… this Ghost Pepper Salsa is scary hot!

My Thoughts:  Well, this is from my husband, as I was too chicken to try this salsa.  He said it really brought the heat.  I even caught him wiping his brow after the first bite.  My husband loved how it woke up his taste buds, but also was addicting, as he found himself going back for my punishment.  If you are a fan of really hot peppers of food, then you definitely need to try this salsa -- you will be crying in pain, so make sure you have a cup of milk near you for fast relief.

Nacho Cheese Sauce -- $3.25/jar

Warm it up and pour over nachos, fresh crisp veggies or enchiladas – also delicious right out of the jar.

My Thoughts:  This was the first jar that I sampled and finished off.  My husband and I created a loaded nacho plate and drizzled this oh so good nacho cheese sauce all over the chips.  It wasn't too spicy and had just the right kick to bring together a boring plate of nacho chips.  There was not funny aftertaste like some other cheese sauces.  And, it didn't clump up minutes later like many nacho cheese sauces on the market.  We will definitely be buying this cheese again in the future.
