I had the opportunity to preview a new show that will be airing on CMT beginning Jan. 28th. Here is a little background on the premise of the show:
WORKING CLASS focuses on Carli Mitchell (Melissa Peterman), a single mom from a rough and tumble background, trying to give her kids a better life by moving them to an upscale suburb. She quickly finds that making the transition to “the good life” is harder than she thought.
She's unwittingly befriended by her cranky neighbor, Hank (Ed Asner), her only “career” prospect is a glorified deli job at the local grocery store, and the man she falls for not only already has a girlfriend – but he’s also her boss, Rob (Patrick Fabian). With her ladies-man brother, Nick (Steve Kazee), to help her out (when he’s not acting like one of the kids himself), Carli faces the challenges of parenting, dating, and making friends in her new community by doing more with less, staying true to herself, and approaching each day with a touch of working class.
I was able to preview the pilot episode, “The Buddy System.” In this episode, Carli’s old flame from high school, Buddy, shows up hoping to re-ignite his “spark” with Carli — even if it means humiliating her in front of her new boss. They made a pact that if they were still not married 10 years from their last meeting, that they would get married. Buddy shows up 100+ lbs. lighter, and proposes to Carli at work. You don’t find out until the end of the episode if Carli follows through on her pact with Buddy.
Overall, this was a very funny comedy, and one I think will do well on CMT. Having a newborn at home, it is hard to find time to watch television, but I will definitely be adding this to my Tivo to be recorded. It is nice to see a new show with familiar faces (Ed Asner, Patrick Fabian and Melissa Petermann). This pilot episode kept me laughing, and I will be tuning in on the 28th to see the 2nd episode, which will be shown right after the premiere episode.

Note: I was not paid for my review of this new show and the views/opinions stated in this post are soley mine. I am part of the One 2 One Network, which shared the links to the pilot of this show for me to preview and comment on if I so chose to.
