About this book:
"Bestselling author Dandi Daley Mackall tells the story of Jesus’ birth from an unlikely perspective: a donkey carrying Mary to Bethlehem. The donkey is not the fastest or strongest animal, but he had an important job all the same.
With an exciting message that teaches little ones about God, One Small Donkey is a Christmas story children will love."

My Thoughts:
I received this book a couple of weeks ago and couldn't wait to share it with the girls. Like all the books I receive to review, I read it through first to make sure it is age appropriate and something the girls will enjoy. As I read through this book for the first time, I couldn't help but tear up as I found the story so touching. It is about a little donkey who with all his flaws (or those he thinks he has) is shown just how important he is and how his uniqueness makes him perfect. God loves all things including animals, and this story does an amazing job in sharing and reminding young children that even though they may not be the fastest, smartest, prettiest, or tallest, everyone is different and their differences are what make us all unique. And, even though we are different, God loves us all the same, and wants us to remember that.
When I finally shared this book with my girls, I had a discussion with them afterwards to go over the meaning of the book. We talked about how they have a darker skin color than mine and how Bella, although younger is taller than Savannah, and how Bella is also a different build than Savannah -- but, even with all these differences, we are all perfect in God's eyes and he loves us for our differences, as should we onto each other.
My girls enjoyed the story and the illustrations were fun to look at. Come on, who doesn't love a little donkey. :-) Even though we have only had this book for a short time, it has become a staple at bedtime, and one we will continue to read for years to come, especially around Christmastime.
If you are looking for a heartwarming story to share with your young child this Christmas, why not consider picking up One Small Donkey by Dandi Daley Mackall? The story and donkey will make your heart melt, as you snuggle up next your child and read about the story of Jesus' birth and the important role one small donkey played in the story.
