The 5 Love Languages of Children (Review and Giveaway)

Summary:

To be their best, children need to feel loved. But if you and your child speak different love languages, your affection might get lost in translation, affecting the child’s attitude, behavior, and development. Dr. Gary Chapman’s groundbreaking Five Love Languages series has helped millions of couples communicate love more clearly, and Dr. Ross Campbell M.D. has applied the innovative system to children as well. The 5 Love Languages of Children gives practical suggestions for learning how your children interpret love and creating a sense of security in which they can thrive.

My Thoughts:

The other day, I shared my review of A Perfect Pet for Peyton, a children's book, which introduces young children to the 5 languages of love and how they act determines the way that they love.  Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on The 5 Love Languages of Children, also written by Gary Chapman, PhD and Ross Campbell, MD.  I was surprised how quickly I read this book, as I didn't want to book it down.  While my youngest was sick this past week, I found myself up most of the night rocking and keeping and eye on her.  As a result, I had extra time (which is usually limited with two children under the age of 2) to read a book.  Who knew that parents and children love differently?  And, because of this difference, children may not fully grasp the understanding of love and perceive your actions and ways you choose to show your love differently.

As a child, I found myself questing the actions of my father, in his attempts to show my brothers and I his love for his.  We were not really big huggers, and I always wondered if this is what caused me to shy away when other relatives were eager to give hugs.  Over time, I realized that my parents had different ways of showing their love for me, but that they did love me.  Thanks to this book, and my own personal experiences with misinterpreting love languages, I am better able to convey my love for my daughters, so that they understand and feel safe and secure.  This book had so many good points that I have already begun applying to how I bond and show love for my girls.  As they get older, I will be sharing A Perfect Pet for Peyton, so that they can see there are different ways to love, but know that in the end, being able to express your love, as well as receive another's love, is key to personal growth and development. This book is definitely a book worth picking up if you parent, and will be a book you will continually pick up and reference as your children grow.
